3D Visualization

What is 3D printing?

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is a combination of processes for manufacturing objects by adding material in layers that correspond to the successive cross sections of a 3D model. Plastics and metal alloys are most commonly used for 3D printing. However, practically any material is suitable - from concrete to living tissue.

What is 3D printing used for?

Some unique pieces and extremely complex geometries can only be created efficiently with 3D printing.

Prototyping

3D printing has long been used for the rapid creation of prototypes - for visual concepts, mockups and presentation models.

Lightweight components

The call for fuel efficiency and reduced emissions is creating a high demand for lightweight components from 3D printers in aerospace and automotive applications.

Products with improved functionality

3D printing eliminates many of the limitations associated with traditional manufacturing processes that prevent technicians from creating designs with truly optimal performance.

Custom medical implants

Manufacturers use 3D printing to achieve precise control over surface porosity during osseointegration through better simulation of real bone structures.

Workpieces, templates and functions

Composite workpieces and processing devices can often be produced faster and more cost-effectively using 3D printing. Cycle times can be shortened considerably with conformally cooled injection molding inserts.

Metal casting patterns

The combination of 3D printing and metal casting closes the gap between additively manufactured components and proven manufacturing approaches for large metal objects.
